Strawberry Dream Dessert


1 sheet frozen puff pastry
1/2 cup sliced almonds, coarsely chopped
2 Tbl Sugar
4 small garlic cloves, unpeeled and smashed
1 orange zested in thin strips
1 8-ounce container sour cream
2 Tbs lemon zest
1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
1/4 tsp Almond extract
1 1/2 cups heavy (whipping) cream
1 to 2 Tbl Amaretto or Grand Marnier
1 pint strawberries, sliced
1. Combine almonds and sugar and sprinkle half the mixture over thawed puff pastry and use rolling pin to lightly press mixture into dough.
2. Use pizza cutter to cut 3 strips lengthwise and 4 strips crosswise for a total of 12 squares. Bake at 400 degrees 16 to 18 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Cool completely.
3. Zest orange into long strips and combine with 1 TBL of sugar; set aside.
4. Whisk sour cream, powder sugar and almond extract.
5. Whip Heavy Cream with 1 to 2 Tbl Amaretto.
6. Combine sour cream mixture and whipping cream.
7. Build: Split Puff, add sliced strawberries on bottom; top with cream mixture; then remaining almonds and sugar; top with remaining strawberries; finish with candied orange zest; top with the top of Puff.
