Our guides operate jet boats and rafts on our home swift-water river, Lake Creek. Guides should have a personable character, knowledge of basic spin and fly fishing skills, past experience operating powerboats, tiller outboards and/or jet drive outboard motors/john boats. 1st aid and Cpr qualification is required and is part of gaining your Alaska western waters Coast Guard license which we help you to obtain. The "OUPV" or "6-pack" license is required to guide on Alaska's waterways. We host wide array of fishermen and women from around the world. Lake Creek is one of Alaska's finest all-around remote river systems featuring all species of pacific salmon and blue-ribbon native rainbow trout fishing. We also fish a nearby lake chain showcasing top-water fishing for northern pike. The key to a successful guide is being able to enjoy the atmosphere and share the memories with your clients. summer jobs at our alaska fly fishing lodgeMain Lodge Worker / Guide Apprentice: Position filled for the 2024 season The primary responsibility of this position is to oversee daily lodge operations... guest check-in/check-out, maintaining and overseeing our lodge outfitter & tackle shop supplying guests with necessary gear and equipment, general cleanliness of the main lodge facility, attending to the bar/lounge area, and overall customer service. At times this individual my be asked to help with a wide array of lodge tasks, maintenance, firewood, yard work, cleaning, attending to guests, and assisting fellow employees when needed. There is the opportunity to guide part-time throughout the summer, so this candidate must qualify to gain their Coast Guard OUPV license to do so. Many of our lodge workers return as full-time guides in their 2nd season. Candidates must be hard-working, willing to be involved in various physical tasks, and must be very dependable, self-motivated workers. We work long days at our lodge during summer, but it is a unique, enjoyable and profitable lifestyle. We prefer an upbeat individual who has interest in the customer service/hospitality industry. We expect a high work ethic from all our staff and seek responsible employees who are motivated to do a great job on their own without constant supervision. Experience in operating outboard motor boats and/or jet boats is a must. Our lodge operates on a two-season basis: roughly June 10 - July 10 and July 15 - August 20 with an employee break during mid-July. Daily workload depends on the number of guests at the lodge. During peak seasons the full staff is very busy catering to the needs of our guests. During non-peak fishing seasons, our lodge is at half-capacity or less and work days are quite easy and laid back. They also will assist in the lodge with basic hospitality responsibilities to guests including dinner service and other short shifts to assist with in-lodge management. This is a seasonal position as our lodge opens in June each summer and closes late August each year. It is most important that we find a candidate that loves nature, people and customer service. Someone who is dependable, works well with others and is capable of working without constant supervision. Character is important to us. No drugs. No alcohol abuse please. We have written policies all our staff must abide by. This is a position open initially as a 2022 summer job with possible annual career potential if we find the right fit for us. Skills: well-rounded experience with basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, outboard motor maintenance, basic gas and basic diesel engine maintenance. We have a 10 acre property with multiple buildings that require constant preventative maintenance and upkeep, all with electric and plumbing. We have 2 diesel generators, 14 Yamaha outboard motors, a compact diesel tractor, Polaris ATV, sand-point well system with pumps and filtration system, basic kitchen commercial appliances, just as a few examples of some of the items on the property that will need regular attention. This individual will also supervise one other employee who is able to assist with regular daily chores on the property including mowing, recycling, trash disposal, fuel hauling/pumping, propane, etc. We do regularly have various building and beautification projects each summer to help improve our existing facilities. We currently do all of our own work, and are available to provide thorough training in areas that candidate may not be proficient in. A good work ethic, good personality, good communication skills and a good attitude are imperative in this atmosphere. Room and board is included and a travel stipend is negotiable. The chef team will also be responsible for cooking and presentation of all meals for guests and staff. Based on the preferences of the chef team, an efficient operational system will be established including employee safety, teamwork, safe food practices, food preparation, proper food storage, cleanliness, professionalism and presentation. Our chefs will also have the opportunity to order necessary items from local vendors, conduct kitchen logistics, learn budgeting techniques, etc. We offer much room for creativity and as owners simply oversee the kitchen operation to assure productivity and minimal stress.
