Kids Alaska Fishing and Adventure Vacations

Wilderness Place Lodge creates safe, memorable and education outdoor adventures for kids and their families.

Some of our most meaningful childhood memories were built outside — hiking forest trails, camping under big skies, climbing trees, and discovering wildlife in our own backyard. Today, as more families live in cities, meaningful time in nature has never been more important. That’s why Alaska kids adventures at Wilderness Place Lodge are designed to reconnect children with the outdoors in a safe, exciting, and unforgettable way.

We’re proud to welcome more families each year who choose Alaska for fishing, rafting, and wilderness exploration. To meet that growing interest, we’ve created engaging, educational, and age-appropriate activities that make Alaska both fun and meaningful for kids.

Kid-Appropriate Featured Trip Packages

Alaska Fishing Packages

Fishing our river and nearby chain of lakes is kid-friendly and fun!  The most appropriate time for young kids to fish with us is June and early July for trout, grayling and pike or in late July and early August for a diversity of salmon species.  These periods provide the best conditions overall so that kids are assured a fun and educational fishing experience.

Combine any duration stay at Wilderness Place Lodge plus a fly-out lakeside glamping experience at our Pioneer Cabin Outpost.  Kayak and canoe on the lake, enjoy campfire dinner, hike the trails and fish the river in a peaceful, natural setting.  The next day enjoy a guided raft and fishing float from the cabin back to the main lodge.

This kid and family favorite package highlights the best of remote Alaska and a diversity of outdoor experiences.  Stay and fish with us at Wilderness Place Lodge.  Enjoy a fly-out day raft trip via our Pioneer Cabin lake outpost.  Experience the thrill of a helicopter glacier tour through blue ice fields.  Land atop a snow-covered glacier and learn to dogsled from professional Iditarod mushers.  This has is all!

This package combines the deluxe fishing and lodging experience at Wilderness Place Lodge with epic alpine hiking and kayaking at Caribou Lodge.  Add a Denali flight-seeing tour or a fly-out day float trip to round out the package.  This is ideal for kids 6+ that have a bit more stamina and ability to hike and be on their feet for at least a few hours.

We don't have a set minimum age.  Which package you choose will determine what is age-appropriate and we can help you with that process.  Most kids that visit us for fishing or other remote experiences are mainly above the age of 5.  Kids over 5 typically have the physical capability and stamina to thoroughly enjoy the experiences we offer.

June rainbow trout, arctic grayling and northern pike fishing are great venues for younger kids as they can catch good quantities of fish with lighter equipment.  June is a great time for warmer and drier weather in south-central Alaska making it a comfortable time for fishing and other outdoor adventures.  June fly-out float trips and outpost cabin experiences are a highlight for kids.  For a salmon fishing experience, the last two weeks of July into mid-August would be the best venue as there are good numbers of a variety of species of salmon in the river.  This time of the season is the easiest time for kids to target salmon.

It's best to decide what pace you want to keep during your time in Alaska.  With all of our packages, we allow you to set your pace to what you feel your kids and family will be most comfortable with.  Consider the time you have to travel to and from Alaska when planning how many days you wish to stay in the state.  Most of our families with kids feel most comfortable with our 3-5 night packages, be it fishing or multiple activity adventures.  A longer duration stay allows for a slower pace with ample time to unwind.

For Wilderness Place Lodge stays and our multiple adventure bundles, we offer a 10% discount for kids 5-16.  For kids under 5, we offer 20% off.

For our bundled adventure packages, we are very fortunate to have access to some incredible wilderness experiences in big, beautiful landscapes.  These experiences such as glacier-hiking, river fishing, raft floats, alpine hiking, etc. are actually quite easy for most active and outdoor-loving kid.  Each venue can adapt the regimen to fit your child.  Overall, we would rate most of our adventure regimens as light to moderate with the ability to be more strenuous if the group so chooses.
